Bosnian footballer Armin Bešagić has officially embarked on a new international chapter of his career, moving from Igman Konjic to Gostivar, North Macedonia, after five memorable seasons in Bosnian football. In an open conversation on the Buzzer platform, Bešagić shared his first impressions, reflected on Igman’s relegation, and outlined his ambitions for the future.
Bešagić spent five seasons at Igman Konjic, experiencing both promotion from the First League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and competing in the Bosnian Premier League. His departure comes after Igman’s relegation, a result that still carries emotional weight.
“Of course I’m sorry. Five years is a long time. I truly believe we could have stayed up with a bit more luck,” Bešagić admitted.
He pointed to a shortened league format, financial difficulties, and a decisive 1–1 draw against Radnik as key moments that ultimately defined the club’s fate. From his perspective, Igman now faces a difficult road back to the top tier.
Bešagić’s move is part of a broader trend, with several former Igman players — including Ramić, Velić, and Drljević — also choosing North Macedonia as their next destination.
According to Bešagić, the Macedonian First League is steadily improving:
He highlighted clubs such as Vardar, Shkëndija, and Sileks as leaders in quality and stability, noting that Macedonian teams are increasingly competitive in European competitions.
Now based in Gostivar, Bešagić says his first impressions have been overwhelmingly positive. The city, located roughly 45 minutes from Skopje and 15 minutes from Tetovo, surprised him with its beauty, hospitality, and accessibility.
He also noted cultural similarities, food comparable to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the advantage of having his close friend Cima with him, which has significantly eased the adaptation process during his first month abroad.
Bešagić is now part of RCM Gostivar (newly promoted last season), a team he believes can surprise many this year. The club recently recorded an impressive 3–0 victory over Brera Strumica, a former top-flight side.
The Macedonian league, like Bosnia last season, will operate under a shortened format, increasing the pressure and competitiveness across the campaign. The new season is scheduled to begin on August 8.
Throughout his career, Bešagić was linked with clubs such as Borac Banja Luka and Velež Mostar, but he chose loyalty over quick moves.
He believes remaining at Igman helped him grow into a respected Premier League player and a recognized professional among coaches and peers.
Looking ahead, Bešagić remains focused on continuous improvement, strong performances, and raising his market value to open doors for further international opportunities.
His advice to younger players is clear and uncompromising:
“Give everything you have. Be fully dedicated on the field and outside of it. That’s the only way if you want to achieve something.”
Armin Bešagić’s move to North Macedonia marks an important step in a career built on discipline, consistency, and professionalism. With experience from the Bosnian Premier League, a strong work ethic, and clear ambitions, he now aims to help RCM Gostivar achieve strong results in an increasingly competitive Macedonian league.
As the new season approaches, Bešagić’s journey will be one to watch — not only as a football transfer story, but as an example of steady growth, smart decision-making, and dedication to the game.
