Edin Avdić Defends WBA Title, Adds IBF Belt With First-Round Stoppage of Juan Narváez

Edin Avdić needed one round to settle the biggest fight on the card at Sarajevo Walter Fight Night. 

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Austrian fighter stopped Juan Narváez by technical knockout in the opening round, defending his WBA title and adding the IBF title in the same night. The result made him a two-belt champion.

A First-Round Finish for Both Belts

Avdić entered the fight already holding the WBA title. Narváez came in as the challenger for both belts, with the IBF title also on the line. 

The referee stopped the contest in round one, closing out the main event before it had the chance to develop into a longer contest. It was the kind of finish that left no question about who controlled the fight from the opening bell.

A Historic Setting Above Sarajevo

The fight anchored an evening built around a genuine first for the region. For the first time, championship fights sanctioned by the WBA and the IBF took place at a single event, held at an open-air venue 130 meters above Sarajevo at the Heliodrom, Bosmal Arjaan by Rotana. The setting paired a skyline view of the city at night with a full production build, including a lit ring, sound and lighting rigs, and stadium-style seating around the canvas. 

Organizers framed the setup as a bid to put Sarajevo in contention for a Guinness World Record, tying the city to a sporting milestone beyond the fight results themselves.

Two of Boxing's Governing Bodies, One Night

The WBA is the oldest boxing organization in the world and one of the sport's four most influential governing bodies. The IBF ranks as the second most influential organization in professional boxing, with titles recognized as a top global standard. 

Having both bodies sanction championship fights on the same card gave Sarajevo Walter Fight Night a level of international standing that reached beyond a typical regional event, and put Avdić's win under a level of scrutiny most regional cards don't carry.

A Full Card of Boxing and Kickboxing

Avdić's win headlined a card of seven fights spanning boxing and kickboxing, built as a mix of experienced fighters and emerging talent rather than a single marquee bout surrounded by filler. 

The boxing bouts featured Marija Vujanović, Jawid Mohebzada, Vuk Micić, Ivica Bacurin, and Juan Narváez alongside Avdić, while the kickboxing card brought together Mesud Selimović, Albert Ugrinčić, Manojlo Đurić, and Đorđe Dujaković. 

The evening also featured guest appearances from figures including Tomo Spahović, Luka Plantić, and Miran Fabjan, rounding out a card built to hold attention well beyond the main event.

International Broadcast Reach

The event reached audiences well beyond the arena. Sarajevo Walter Fight Night was broadcast live on FACE TV, on ORF, Austria's national broadcaster, and on YouTube, giving the card international distribution across multiple countries and extending its reach past a regional Sarajevo audience.

For Avdić, the night ended with a title he already held and one he didn't. He walked in the WBA champion and walked out with the IBF belt beside it, needing a single round to do it.
