Ahmed Krnjić is gearing up for a crucial bout in the WBC Grand Prix tournament, facing British fighter David Brito this weekend in Riyadh. This match represents another step toward Krnjić's goal of winning the prestigious tournament.
"I've prepared well, thank God, without any injuries," Krnjić shared during the interview. "I trained in Sarajevo at my home club with coach Bisad Ćebija, alongside our boxers Sadman Hasanović and Kenan Hanjalić and other guys from the club."
Krnjić also spent time training in Frankfurt with Elvin Šendra and three to four other boxers who came for sparring sessions. "I'm especially grateful to them this time because they helped me a lot in these preparations," he noted.
Krnjić's opponent, David Brito, is no newcomer to the boxing scene. "David Brito, an Italian, is a serious fighter with already one respectable title in his career - the VBC veterinary title in the middleweight category, that is, in the category up to one hundred and one kilos," Krnjić explained.
He added, "He's a guy who fought against Murad Liev for the international WBC belt, very experienced, good, but I think we're ready to do this match and win it, of course."
This upcoming match marks the second phase of the WBC tournament in Riyadh. Krnjić enters this bout with momentum, having won his first match by TKO in the third round.
"The first match I won by TKO in the third round. I hope we'll do this one too... in as short a time as possible... as short and as good as possible... more effectively," Krnjić stated.
When asked about his strategy, Krnjić emphasized the unpredictable nature of boxing: "It's not chess. Boxing is hahaha... you never know what can happen, but basically, everything has been done properly so far."
What sets Krnjić apart is his active participation across multiple combat sports. Currently involved in both the WBC tournament and the Glory kickboxing tournament, he's also considering entering the MMA arena.
"Regarding some general plans, the goal is these two tournaments we mentioned. After this match, the third round is in August. The Glory tournament again, I'm returning to the Glory tournament, if God wills, also in August," Krnjić explained.
He faces a challenging decision regarding his athletic future: "Now we'll have to balance that a bit. I don't know if we can continue to do both tournaments, whether we'll give up one and continue with the other."
Krnjić also expressed interest in MMA: "There's certainly the option to do one MMA match by the end of the year."
At 28, Krnjić feels he's in his prime years and is motivated to maximize his opportunities. "Last year I had a minor injury, so I was out of everything for about half a year, and now I somehow want to make up for it, and I'm in my best years," he shared.
With extensive experience in boxing, kickboxing, and training camps for MMA, Krnjić believes it's time for bigger achievements: "I think the time is for bigger matches. And if now in this period, when these are actually the best years, if I'm healthy, good, ready, I think I should work as much as possible and prove that I belong to the very top, so to say, of the regional and European scene, combat sports generally, basically boxing, kick-boxing, MMA."
Krnjić's immediate focus is on his match against Brito, but he's already looking ahead. "We'll see what happens. I'm attacking on all fronts, so I'll succeed somewhere," he said confidently.
Regarding the possibility of competing in both the WBC and Glory tournaments simultaneously, Krnjić remains pragmatic: "That's still a question that we'll only solve after this match, if God wills. The goal is to achieve as much success as possible... a better result in these two tournaments."
His management team will play a crucial role in determining his path forward: "In the end, you don't make that plan. It will all be up to the organizations, to the managers, and at the end of the day, you'll see what's most financially viable and what's best for you."
Krnjić expressed gratitude for his supporters' encouragement: "Thank you all, and of course, we're with you, everyone expects a victory and for you to bring, aa, another belt, that is- to become the WBC champion in this tournament, then of course I hope for Glory too, and then, if God wills, UFC too since we're already-"
