Inside Buzzer's Latest Update (and Why It Changes How You Use the App)

So, Buzzer just got a whole lot bigger and better.

We’re not talking about a few bug fixes or minor touch-ups here, but the kind of update that changes almost everything. New ways for people to interact with each other, a proper reputation system, a full identity suite for athletes, and much more, including games if that’s more of your thing.

So, whether you're a fan who lives in the comments, an athlete trying to get scouted, or even a club trying to run a tryout in search of new talent, this update has something in there that changes how you use Buzzer.

Let’s get into it already, shall we?

Comments Are Better Now

It might seem like a small thing, but comments are actually where the real energy lives. You’ve probably seen this in other platforms, and things aren’t any different for Buzzer and that’s why we've made them a lot cleaner.

Replies are now properly threaded so conversations actually make sense, especially when they get busy. You can also draft a comment before posting it. It sounds simple, but it matters when you're in the middle of talking about a controversial topic.

There's also a translate option built in, which is really useful on a platform with users from the Middle East, Europe, and beyond. And the reporting flow has been rebuilt, so flagging a bad comment or a post that doesn't belong now takes a few taps rather than a lot of effort.

Also, if you find yourself viewing content that has since been deleted ot removed, the app now tells you clearly instead of just breaking.

Double Tap to Like and Page Reload Animation

This one is simple but satisfying. You can now simply double tap a post to like it. The Buzzer bolt fires, your like registers, and you keep scrolling. It's one of those interactions that feels obvious when you think about it; it makes the feed a lot more fluid just how pretty much any user would like.

Reloading a page now also has a cool animation, which while small, contributes to the overall user experience.

Explore and News, built for sport fans

We’ve also rebuilt the Explore section from the ground up. When you open it now, you get a unified view of what's happening: sport news, live Arena events, Reels, games, and follow suggestions all in one place.

The News section sits alongside it and goes deeper. Stories are tagged by category (Football, Basketball, MMA, Ice Hockey, Polo, Tennis, and more) so you can filter down to exactly what you follow.

Articles include read time, engagement counts, and a "Top Reads" section so the best content rises naturally. If you write on Buzzer, you can now publish directly to a sport category and reach the right readers. When your content performs, the platform rewards that activity.

The Karma System: Yep, Your Reputation Has a Number Now

This cuts it as probably the most significant change for regular users, and we would advice you to understand it properly.

Karma on Buzzer works the same way it does on Reddit. Your score goes up when you contribute well, and when you don’t, it goes down. Upvotes on your comments add to it. Downvotes take from it.

To build your Karma over time, just post quality content, engage genuinely, and be a useful part of the conversation. That’s it.

There are seven levels, starting at Rookie and climbing through Contributor, Noticed, Valued, Trusted, and Respected. Each level comes with its own badge on your profile, and getting to the top takes real, sustained contribution. Not just posting a lot.

The other side of it (the one that doesn’t play around) matters just as much. Anyone who violates community guidelines, either by swearing in comments, harassment, spam, or misleading content, will have their Karma deducted

If that happens to be you, a notification will be sent telling you exactly what happened and why. If a moderator issues a Disciplinary Karma Reset, you'll see the full-screen penalty notice, which shows the deduction and the reason. It's specific and impossible to ignore.

Buzzer is moving toward quality users, and Karma is the mechanism. We have over 5 million active users, and this update is about making sure the right ones feel at home.

Shake Your Phone to Report a Problem

Compared to the other features, this is arguably the most clever. Let’s say you encounter a bug or something broken while using the app. Simply shake your phone. And we mean literally.

Buzzer will capture the context automatically (including info about the device, network logs, what was happening on screen) and send it with your report. So, no need to describe the technical details yourself.

Even so, if you’re an old soul and would still prefer reporting bugs the old-fashioned way, there's a toggle to report without shaking in Settings.

Play Games on Buzzer

Mobile game buffs weren’t left behind with this release. The Explore section now includes a Games hub, which is a new direction for the platform. The initial library includes titles across Sports, Arcade, Puzzle, Board, and Casino categories.

The games are powered by GoGetMo, and you don't leave Buzzer to play as they run inside the app.

And the Games hub is just but the beginning. We are currently working to introduce tournaments, monthly challenges, high score leaderboards, and best player rankings. These come on a much later date, but worth keeping an eye on.

The Athlete Badge: A Verified Identity for Serious Athletes

This is the biggest new feature for athletes specifically, and it’s safe to say that it goes well beyond a blue tick.

The Athlete Badge ($9.99/month) gives verified athletes a proper professional presence on Buzzer. Think of it as “LinkedIn … but for athletes.”

The verification process involves KYC; you submit an ID document and a face scan. Once approved, your profile carries the verified athlete badge.

Suffice it to say, what you get from there is more substantial than most athlete verification features on other platforms. A Digital Sports CV lets you log your sport, position, club history, stats, and career highlights. You can even add awards and certificates, link to videos, and build a profile that will serve as your actual pro portfolio rather than just a social page.

It doesn’t end there. Buzzer, through the editorial team, also writes an official article about each verified athlete, which will be published on the platform and can be found through search.

On the discovery side, verified athletes get higher visibility across Buzzer, they appear in scout and opportunity databases, and have a better chance of being considered for tryouts. Oh, there's also a one-time $50 ad credit included to put your content in front of more people when you're starting out.

The Athlete Card

Every verified athlete gets a digital card. And it's easily one of the nicer design details in this update.

The card shows your photo, name, birth date, nationality, weight, height, sport, sport level (Developing, Proficient, or Elite), health status (Fit, Recovering, or Injuring), experience, and total plays.

On the back is a QR code that links directly to your Buzzer profile at your own buzzerfan.com URL.

Is the card shareable? Yes, and it even flips. Swipe left to see the back (which displays the QR and awards), swipe right to see the Buzzer Spotlight article written about you. For scouts or club managers looking up a player, it's a clean and quick way to get the full picture.

The card also appears on your profile under the Professional tab, alongside your career history (clubs, roles, and dates) in chronological order.

Tryouts: The Full Picture for Athletes and Clubs

One of the more ambitious things in this update is the Tryout system, which we deliberately designed to equally serve both sides of the table.

For athletes, Buzzer now lists tryout events with full details: location, date, price, organising club, and what to expect. The highlights typically include things like equal evaluation chances, professional coach assessment, and openness to all backgrounds.

You purchase a Tryout Pass directly through the app. Once confirmed, the pass saves to your profile with a unique numeric ID tied to that event and club. If the payment goes through, you're in.

As for clubs side, there's a web-based Tryout Console where the whole process is managed. You create tryout listings, set requirements and descriptions, and track applicants all in one dashboard. Club accounts on Buzzer also support full member management, including adding players, staff, and coaches with roles and positions assigned. The platform handles notifications to both sides throughout.

It's a full pipeline, and not just a listing feature.

Buzzer Ads: The B2B Side of This Update

While most of this update is user-facing, there's a significant set of features aimed at brands, advertisers, and sports organisations.

The Buzzer Ads Console (accessible at app.buzzerfan.com) is where campaign management lives. Advertisers can run three types of campaigns: Cost per Mille (CPM) for broad awareness, Cost per Click (CPC) for driving traffic, and Cost per Lead (CPL) for collecting signups directly inside the app.

The CPL format is particularly well-built. The lead form sits inside Buzzer (users never leave the app to fill it in). You can include custom questions (the demo shows "How much do you exercise?" with multiple-choice answers), contact fields, and a CTA.

The campaign builder supports multiple ad formats: Feed Posts, Reels and Story, Live Stream Full Size, and Live Stream Overlay. Budget is set as a daily spend with a total campaign ceiling, and scheduling goes down to the hour.

For existing content creators and clubs, there's also a Boost Post option. It's straightforward amplification of a post that's already live, without building a full campaign.

On the transparency side, users who see an ad can tap to find out why they're seeing it. The explanation notes that targeting is based on activity, content, and location, and that Buzzer doesn't share conversations with advertisers. Users can also report ads they find irrelevant or inappropriate.

The Billing section tracks credits, payment history with paid/failed status, and business info. There's a VAT registration prompt for businesses that need it, and the Add Credits flow has clear success and failure states.

A Note on Where Buzzer Is Heading

Most of what's in this update points in the same direction: quality over volume. The Karma system rewards people who contribute well. The Athlete Badge is built for serious athletes, not casual ones. The Tryout Console gives clubs actual infrastructure, not just a profile page. The Ads Console is built for businesses with real budgets and goals.

Buzzer has over 5 million active users. This update is about making the platform worth staying on, and worth building something on.
