How Buzzer Karma Works: Levels, Penalties, and What They Mean

Buzzer Karma is like a scorecard for your profile on the platform. It goes up when you contribute well and goes down when you don't, and it now shows up right under your name for everyone to see.

How Your Karma Score Adds Up (and Drops Down)

As we’ve already established, Karma measures how much value you're adding to Buzzer, not how often you post. 

New accounts start with their Karma below 10, and that’s on purpose. Buzzer wants users to spend some time in the app before they can start weighing in themselves. 

You don’t need to comment to get the 10 Karma. Posting, sharing a reel, liking something you like, and upvoting (or downvoting) other people’s comments all build Karma from day one. Consistent posting can get you there fast. If you publish a few good reels that land well, that’s enough to help you clear the threshold in a week, give or take.

Once commenting unlocks, your comments start to matter, and how people react to them affects your Karma. Comments that are good and make sense tend to hold up well over time. We can’t say the same for a short reply or a string of emojis, which don’t do much for anyone. 

The Buzzer Karma Levels

There are ten levels in total, and each one carries its own badge:

• Newbie: the default level for anyone new to Buzzer
• Contributor 
• Noticed 
• Valued 
• Trusted
• Respected 
• Influential 
• Authority 
• Iconic 
• Legendary 

Climbing through these rankings takes sustained and real effort. Posting a lot doesn't move the needle on its own, but posting good content does.

There's also a rank called Offside, which sits below zero. It's not the starting point but a warning sign reserved for people with a history of posting low-quality contributions or breaking community guidelines. Anyone who visits your profile can see if you’re Offside. It’s company you don’t want to join, and definitely not the kind of company Buzzer is for. 

Karma Discipline: How Penalties Work

This is the part that makes Buzzer's Karma system different from a simple points tally. If you break the rules, swear in the comments, harass someone, send spam or post anything misleading, you’ll lose Karma points right away. On top of that, the reason you lost points will be attached to it so you can see what happened. 

When this happens, you’ll get a notification straight away letting you know you've been disciplined. If a moderator issues a Disciplinary Karma Reset, a full-screen penalty notice will follow telling you exactly how many Karma points was deducted and why. There's no vague policy-violation email to decode. You’ll know what happened and why it happened.

Can Buzzer Karma go negative? 

Yes. If you keep doing things that are not allowed or make poor contributions all the time, your Buzzer Karma can go below zero, which will put your account in Offside status. 

How do I check my Karma level? 

Simply open your profile, tap Points, and select Karma Achievements. You should be able to see your current level, total Karma, and next milestone.

Why can't I comment on Buzzer yet? 

New accounts need to get at least 10 Karma to be able to comment. You can get Karma through likes, posts, reels, threads, upvoting, and downvoting other people’s comments, so it shouldn’t take long to clear.

Does Karma affect monetization on Buzzer? 

Karma shows how good your contributions are on Buzzer.  The standard isn’t any different when reviewing monetization. We no longer just look at how many people you’ve referred to join the platform, but also how good your content is and how much people really like it.
